Google Contacts: How to force MS Excel to import a CSV file without messing up with leading numbers like ‘0’ or ‘+’ sign automatically?
Here’s how I do it. (Google Contacts) I standardize everything with +International Code. So taking an INDIAN example:
A phone number is 91 1234567890 (91 is the area code and the phone number follows). So in this example, I’ll enter the number as follows:
+91 1234567890
Then using Excel or Google Sheets, set the Phone Number Column as Text.

Note: that dialing in a country, once again using the Malaysian example, will NOT incur international call charges.
Another way to create a Google Contacts Import template is to create an ideal contact i.e. name as you like it, email, phone, various dates (birthdays, anniversary), relationships, notes, custom fields etc. Then export it.
