If I designed a website in a program and exported the entire HTML code, how do I transfer it onto WordPress or similar to make the website? The site is the way you want it in HTML and you don’t want to do anything else… then get a hosting company and just FTP your HTML files. Change your DNS and that’s all you need to do.

As already said it’s not straightforward if you have already decided the look and feel of a website. A direct translation of HTML to WordPress will not go in tandem with WordPress architecture. However, these links below (not affiliated) will help you. First one is popular and free. many other drag and drop builders (not free) will also help you. like headway, catalyst, dynamic etc. code lobster is free but the WordPress plugin is not.

Tools:

Page Builder Plugin – SiteOrigin

http://codecanyon.net/item/visua…

A page on www.web design software and Joomla template maker

CodeLobster – Free portable PHP IDE with support Drupal, Smarty, Twig, WordPress, Joomla, JQuery, CodeIgniter, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, CakePHP, Facebook, Laravel, Phalcon, Symfony, Yii

You basically have to tear apart the code you have to essentially strip. Out the content and enter into the new WP or CMS you choose using the UI provided. So your content transfers to the database.  If you did have a DB with your content. There may be a way for you to import your data across to the new WP DB schema.

As for the site design/UI (if you want to keep it). You would need to translate the site into a WordPress template, which simply varies to how complex your design was.  The amount of work is pretty close to building a new site.  If you can live with a different design. You could probably choose from many free WP templates to start from. Then modify only what you need.

Thus only leaving the first step to save the content.
